A great friend of mine can be found sitting by a grave amongst the slate stones of Mullion, Cornwall. She is part of a community who were brought up on the impressive peninsula in the idyllic surroundings of the most southerly point of the British mainland. 'Until I'm With You' is about her loss and longing, and also the fishing community past and present of Mullion, Cadgwith and the Lizard.
I originally wrote the song for the folk singer Sue Graves to sing. She performed with my late Uncle Peter, another folk singer who often could be heard singing the Cadgwith Anthem. Peter encouraged me to play and gave me my first guitar which was amonst the items I managed to save by diving down into the boat when it sunk in July. The guitar is currently drying out in the corner of the room as I write, I'm too scared to tighten the strings just in case it falls apart when I do so. I hope it still has life left in it and can recover from the exposure to the bottom of the Thames.
Despite recording 'Until I'm With You' myself I still can only hear Sue's voice on it and hope one day she too will record it.
